Back in 1986, fresh out of college, I thought I was going to set the HVAC world on fire. I wanted to know everything—diving deep into books and classes (because this was before the internet).

After ten years in the consulting world, buried in theory, I started feeling the gap. Consulting firms back then weren’t very hands-on. Orders came from cubicles. Solutions lived on paper. That didn’t sit right with me.

So I bought the whole toolkit: airflow hoods, flow meters, temp sensors, and pressure gauges. Stuff we’d lug onto rooftops ourselves. We’d stand next to the techs, listen to the complaints—“too hot here,” “not enough air there”—then prove it with real numbers.

No middlemen. No hand-waving. Just practical engineering from people who show up, sleeves rolled, meters beeping.
